96 thousand crore rupees 5G spectrum auction begins, Jio-Airtel and Vi to bid

5G spectrum auction has started. The auction of 5G spectrum has started in India and its price is 96 thousand crore rupees. It started from Tuesday. Earlier, the spectrum was auctioned in 2022, in which the government fetched a record Rs 1.5 trillion.

Three of the country's largest private sector companies, Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea are participating. The government is expecting several big bids. In this auction, the government has put a total of 8 spectrum bands for auction.

All three companies will bet

According to media reports, experts have made an estimate and said the three telecom companies could buy spectrum worth around Rs 12,500 crore, which is only 13 per cent of the Rs 96,320 crore worth of airwaves.

The online auction will be held at the War Room of DOT in Sanchar Bhawan. The government organized a successful auction on May 13 and 14.

The Ministry of Communications said that 10,522.35 MHz of various bands will be auctioned during this spectrum auction. In 2022, 51,236 MHz of spectrum was auctioned. In 2021, 855.6 MHz spectrum was auctioned.

Uses spectrum for mobile, voice and data connectivity. Spectrum actually means electromagnetic frequencies, which are used in various communication services. Companies buy and use it for better connectivity with their customers. It is procured from National Regulator i.e. Govt.

Waves are also used in remotes, TVs and radios etc. The band level varies everywhere and its main function is to provide connectivity
