Google Pixel Update: Google's Pixel phones may soon be able to handle the heat better. A new feature called "Adaptive Thermal" will help users cool down their phones before they reach dangerous temperatures. Android Authority has found evidence of this upcoming feature in the latest version of Google's Device Health Services app. This feature will alert users when their phone is overheating and will also suggest ways to cool it down.

How will this feature work?
When the Pixel phone's battery reaches 49°C (120°F), the phone will send a "pre-emergency" notification. This alert will warn users that their phone is overheating and may run slow. It will also advise you to avoid direct consumption and close apps that consume more battery. If you tap on the notification, you'll get more information about what the phone is doing to cool itself, such as reducing performance and turning off 5G. You will also get additional tips like keeping the phone in a ventilated place.

According to a report by Android Authority, this feature will check the phone's temperature every five minutes. If the temperature reaches 52°C (126°F), it will enter an "emergency" state, although not much is known about this state yet. At 55°C (131°F) the phone will warn users that it may shut down.

This new feature enhances the existing heat management tools in Android phones. Now the phone can reduce the brightness of the screen to keep itself cool, reduce the speed of the processor or even turn off when it gets too hot. Overheating has been an issue with some Pixel models. Last year, Pixel 6 and 7 users reported overheating issues after a security update. The Pixel 8 series also faced similar issues.

When will this feature come?
It is not yet clear when the "Adaptive Thermal" feature will come, but it is expected to launch with the upcoming Pixel 9 series. This new way to protect yourself from heat can help Pixel users keep their phones cool while using apps that require more processing, especially in summer.
